You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Remain in me, as I remain in you, says the Lord;
whoever remains in me will bear much fruit.
R. Alleluia, alleluia. John 15

How has fasting enriched your spiritual life? How has it enriched your physical life? What fruits have you seen from the regular practice of fasting? One man who is has written into Live the Fast has said that he would never have been able to overcome addictions without the regular practice of fasting. Some men and women have found that fasting helps them to maintain a healthy body weight. Many people share with us that fasting helps to temper the passions. How has fasting helped you?

Fasting isn’t easy and takes discipline, even for those who have been fasting regularly. Remember that when we fast, we undergo more temptations. Prayer is necessary in order to fast well. And remember, we’re all in this together; you are not alone!

In addition to the beneficial effects of fasting on each of us, there are also great benefits to those for whom we are praying. When we are tempted on fasting days, it’s important to remember the sick and suffering who need our prayers and fasting. In this way, we can be like the Good Samaritan to people we don’t know.

Just reading the general prayer requests and some of the individual prayer requests from our community will tell you that there is a great need for prayer: addictions to pornography, family members in illicit relationships, those with food and drug addictions, those in financial ruin, the plight of our Christian brothers in sisters in all parts of the world. These all seem like impossible situations and we can often be overwhelmed with despair. However, nothing is impossible with God. Read a few of the answered prayers below to see that nothing is impossible with God.

When we fast today, let us remember and pray for all the Live the Fast community intentions, for all those who are suffering, especially our persecuted brothers and sisters in the Middle East and for priests.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou oh prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls, Amen.

Holy Mary, pray for us! Holy Spirit, teach us to pray!
