War broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. (Revelation 12:7)
Many people have no problem believing in angels but don’t want to (or refuse to) believe in demons.
Demons do exist. The need for exorcisms has risen because many souls have invited the evil one into their hearts, sometimes without even knowing they’ve done it.
All demons are afraid of those who fast. This is because with prayer and fasting in our lives, he knows his temptations will often fail, and he hates that.
“Be not afraid.”
Fasting is a weapon we can use against Satan and to strengthen our wills with virtue. Do not be afraid or discouraged and give up. The more we fight the devil with prayer and fasting, the more the evil one will be afraid of us. Fasting creates excellence in spiritual virtue by purification, and it becomes a supernatural virtue that is pleasing to God and becomes penance for our sins which helps us to prepare for eternity. Remember: Jesus Himself fasted to defeat the demons, and all temptations, and if we follow His example, we can do just as He did.
No matter how hard it is, continue to fast. Recite the St. Michael prayer composed by Pope Leo XIII: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou oh prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the earth seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Also consider reciting the Chaplet of the Holy Fast.
Today let us pray and fast for all the community intentions, for all those who are being oppressed by the evil one and for conversion of sinners.
Holy Mary, pray for us! Holy Spirit, teach us to pray! Holy Archangels, pray for us!
