Whoever keeps the word of Christ,
the love of God is truly perfected in him. 1 John 2:5
Christ spoke to us many times throughout Scripture and continues to speak to us — through Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium (teaching authority) of the Church.
The love of God was – and continues to be — truly perfected in Christ. We are called to imitate Jesus in our thoughts, words and actions.
Jesus said, “When you fast,” not “If you fast.” Jesus fasted before every important event in His life. He knew that fasting was necessary for our spiritual health. Fasting adds weight and power to our prayer intentions and invites the Holy Spirit into our hearts. Besides being necessary for our souls, fasting is also beneficial to our bodies because it helps many people to keep a healthy weight. Fasting gives the body a rest from constant food.
We are all sinners, but if we do our best to pray and fast, listen to God’s word by following the Ten Commandments, Holy Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the teachings of the Church, we will give our souls the spiritual nourishment to be virtuous and spiritually healthy.
While God’s words are not always easy to live, living by them makes us better people and gives us the best chance of having God’s love truly perfected in us and helping us reach heaven, our eternal home.
Tomorrow, let us pray and fast for all the community intentions and for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory.
Holy Mary, pray for us! St. Leo the Great, pray for us! Holy Spirit, teach us to pray! Holy Souls in Purgatory, pray for us!
