Mary’s Meals

“To abandon, for God’s sake, all worldly enjoyments, has always been the practice of holy souls.” St. Alphonsus de Liguouri

Live the Fast is honored and blessed to announce the support of Mary’s Meals as the charity to fulfill the Trinitarian component of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.

Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.

Mary’s Meals is a simple idea that works – by providing a daily meal in a place of education, chronically poor children are attracted to the classroom where they can gain a basic education that provides an escape route from poverty.

1.3 million children receive Mary’s Meals every school day.

“The practice of charity at the start must be seen not only as an essential accompaniment of our fasting, but as its very goal.”  – Charles Murphy, “The Spirituality of Fasting”

Child31 – A Documentary on Mary’s Meals

In this powerful new documentary film, Grassroots Films captures Mary’s Meals’ life-changing work in action throughout Malawi, Kenya and India, and its mission to help millions of children around the world realize their dreams. Follow Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow as we get a glimpse into his simple, yet ground-breaking, approach that is working to lift the developing world out of poverty and give a face to hunger’s deadly numbers.

Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God. For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger,...
