The Virtue of Fasting by Fr. Chad Ripperger
Fast and Pray For Our Country
Listen to Andy LaVallee’s 8-24-16 interview with Teresa Tomeo on Catholic Connections
speaking about praying and fasting for our country.
From Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Michigan:
Let’s join together every Wednesday until the end of the year for a day of prayer and fasting for America.
We’ll consume only liquids until dinner (though any fast is acceptable), then break our fast with Holy Communion during 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Mass (join us at 6:00 p.m. to pray the Rosary).
May our prayers and fasting bring healing to our nation and our world.
“And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.” – President Abraham Lincoln

Fr. John Riccardo reflects on the words of Presidents John Adams, James Madison, and Abraham Lincoln as well as on a promise from God while offering a proposal to the parish community of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Fr. John points out that the only remedy for what ails our nation is to turn to God with fasting, repentance, and prayer. Fr. John proposes that for the remainder of the calendar year everyone fasts each Wednesday as a parish family, gather to pray the rosary at 6 PM in the church, and then break the fast with reception of the Holy Eucharist during the evening Mass. Our community here at Live the Fast can fast in solidarity with Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish.
